« Le Mémorial National des Héros et des Martyrs de la Shoah », lieu de mémoire contre l’oubli du crime, est aujourd’hui un ensemble muséologique exceptionnel édifié sur le Mont du Souvenir à Jérusalem.
Sa mission est de perpétuer le souvenir de près de six millions de Juifs assassinés par les nazis et leurs collaborateurs de 1933 à 1945, d’honorer tous les actes d’héroïsme, de révolte et de sauvetage, et d’enseigner aux générations suivantes cette histoire, comme « une balise d’avertissement contre l’antisémitisme, la haine et les génocides à travers le monde ».
Depuis 1963, Yad Vashem, en hommage aux « Justes parmi les Nations », a créé l’Avenue des Justes plantée d’arbres à leur nom, puis le Jardin des Justes où les listes de noms sont gravées sur des murs, pays par pays.

Dans tout le site de Yad Vashem, des arbres ont été plantés en l’honneur des non-juifs qui ont agi selon les principes d’Humanité les plus nobles en risquant leur vie pour sauver des juifs pendant la Shoah. A côté de chaque arbre, un panneau rappelle le nom et le pays d’origine du Juste nommé.
